Michael A. Elzey is a compensation strategist, career coach, and the founder of Comply Negotiation Advisors, a firm specializing in salary and equity negotiation training for technology professionals. Over the past fifteen years, he has advised more than four thousand professionals across more than two hundred companies on negotiating compensation packages totaling over $800 million in aggregate value.
Michael began his career as a software engineer at a Fortune 500 company, where he discovered firsthand how little most professionals understand about their own market value. After successfully negotiating a 40 percent increase on his first job offer—a number he was initially afraid to ask for—he became obsessed with the mechanics of compensation. He earned his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where his research focused on information asymmetry in labor markets and the psychology of adversarial negotiation.
He has since worked as a compensation analyst at a major technology company, built pay equity models for multiple Fortune 500 organizations, and trained hundreds of HR teams on fair compensation practices. His work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Business Insider, and on NPR's Marketplace. His previous book, *Know Your Worth: The Essential Guide to Compensation Research*, remains a top-rated resource on salary benchmarking methodology.
Michael lives in Seattle, Washington, with his wife and two children. When he is not writing or coaching, he volunteers with Code for America, teaching financial literacy and career negotiation skills to early-career professionals from underrepresented backgrounds. He also maintains an active blog at workworthsalary.com, where he provides ongoing negotiation advice and market compensation updates.
